Running a pub is an exciting and rewarding career, but, to be successful, it’s important to know the essentials for running a licensed business. Admiral Taverns offer a variety of training courses throughout the UK, run by approved training providers.

If you have never run your own pub business we recommend that you undertake the PEAT training course. This is a 2 hour online course offered by the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) that ensures you fully understand the details of pub tenancy and lease agreements before you make the commitment to taking on your own pub. We highly recommend the BIIAB Introduction to Licensed Retail Operations (ILRO) qualification - a three day course that will get you off to a flying start.

The BII is the leading awarding body and membership organisation for those in the licensed trade, and the ILRO course is a fantastic way of learning the essentials about running your own pub business.

It is available at venues nationally and run jointly by:

Ideal for both new and experienced licensees, the intensive three day programme comprises 13 sections covering all aspects of operating a licensed premise from marketing, health & safety and employment law through to drinks service and stock control. Those attending receive a comprehensive tool kit of guidance notes, reference documents and financial spreadsheets.

With all the essentials comprehensively covered, you will be equipped with the skills to meet the challenges that come with running a pub.
